Roadmaps lay the change you plan on a timeline: plateaus (stable states of the architecture), work packages, deliverables, gaps and events, all taken from the repository. A roadmap only points at repository elements, so renaming an element shows everywhere. The plateaus page shows each architecture state, what it holds and how states lead to one another. Everyone can read; architects build them.
Roadmaps & plateaus
The list of roadmaps. Each row shows its reference, name, number of items and when it was last updated.
- Choose Active or Archived to switch lists.
- Select a roadmap to open it.
- Architects open New roadmap, enter a name and description, and choose Create the roadmap.
- Choose Plateaus for the architecture states view.
Archiving hides a roadmap without deleting it, and it can be restored.
A roadmap
One roadmap: its description, buttons to download the items as CSV or the timeline as a picture (SVG), and the sections for the timeline, items, adding items, proposing elements and details. Architects see all of them; others see the timeline and the items table.
Timeline
The picture of the roadmap. Each dated item is drawn as a bar from its start to its end date, in rows grouped by lane; an item with a single date is shown as a milestone. If nothing is dated, the page says so.
Dates come from the items, so to change the picture edit the items below. Use Download the picture (SVG) to put it in a presentation.
Items
The repository elements on this roadmap, each with its type, lane, start, end and note. Plateaus, work packages, deliverables, gaps and implementation events can be placed on a timeline.
Architects can open Edit on a row to change the lane, dates (DD/MM/YYYY) or note and choose Save, or choose Remove from the roadmap. Removing only takes the element off this roadmap; it stays in the repository.
Add an item
Put an existing repository element on the roadmap.
- Choose an element from the list, or type its reference, such as
PLT-0001. - Optionally set a lane, which groups rows together.
- Enter a start date and, unless it is a milestone, an end date.
- Add a note if useful, then choose Add to the roadmap.
A roadmap can hold up to 300 items. Architects only.
Propose a new element
When the plateau or work package you need is not in the repository yet, propose it here.
- Choose the type and enter a name.
- Choose Add to my change set.
- When the change set is approved by a different person, return and add the element to the roadmap.
Governance matters here: the proposal goes through a change set like any other repository change, so it is reviewed before it exists. Architects only.
Roadmap details
Change the roadmap’s name and description and choose Save. Below that, Archive this roadmap hides it from the active list (and Restore this roadmap brings it back). Archiving does not touch the repository elements. Architects only.
Plateaus
Each plateau is a stable state of the architecture. For each one this page shows:
- When: its dates, taken from the roadmaps that use it, or “Not on a roadmap yet”.
- Follows and Leads to: the plateaus before and after it, from triggering relationships.
- Holds: the elements the plateau aggregates or composes.
- Gaps: the gaps associated with it.
Plateaus and the links between them are repository elements and relationships, so they change through change sets. Select a plateau’s name to open its record.
