This page covers everything you meet before you start work: signing in, looking after your own account, the Home page and the search box. You only ever see what your roles allow, so some screens described elsewhere in the academy may not appear for you. If a role you need is missing, ask your organisation’s tenant admin (see Users and roles).
Account and sign-in
Your Account page is where you manage how you sign in. Open it from your name in the top bar, then choose Account and sign-in.
- Add one or more passkeys, from this device or from your phone.
- Choose whether a passkey is also asked for after a password or emailed link.
- Set or change a password.
You can always sign in with an emailed link, so you are never locked out by forgetting a password. The first time you arrive you will see a welcome note suggesting a passkey or password for next time.
Your details
Shows the email address you sign in with. It is also the address sign-in links are sent to. Your name and roles are managed by your tenant admin, not here.
If the address is wrong, ask the tenant admin to add you again with the right one rather than trying to work around it.
Passkeys
A passkey signs you in with your fingerprint, face or device PIN instead of a password. It is tied to this Lintel address, so it cannot be used on a look-alike site.
- Press Add a passkey (you can name it, for example “Work laptop”).
- Approve the prompt from your device.
- Next time, choose Sign in with a passkey on the sign-in page.
The table lists each passkey with when it was added and last used. Remove deletes one. If your browser does not support passkeys you will see a note saying so; use the phone option or a password instead.
Passkey as a second step
Some organisations want a passkey after a password or emailed link as well, for stronger protection. Signing in with a passkey alone already counts as two factors, so it never asks again.
The note on the card tells you who decides in your case: the product owner for everyone, your tenant admin for the organisation, or you.
- If the box is shown, tick it to ask for a passkey after your password or link, then Save.
- If it is locked, the setting has been made for you.
- If you are required to use it and have no passkey, you are asked to add one first.
Add a passkey from your phone
Use this when your computer has no fingerprint reader or camera but your phone does.
- On your Account page choose Add a passkey from your phone.
- Scan the QR code with the phone’s camera, or open the link shown.
- On the phone, press Create passkey on this phone.
The code works once and expires after a few minutes. Make a fresh one if it runs out. See also Add a passkey on this phone.
Home
Home is your starting page after you sign in. It shows who you are signed in as, a summary of the repository (the store of architecture elements and relationships) and the state of the build.
Use the tiles as shortcuts: each number links to the list behind it. Choose a page from the menu on the left for everything else. The Home page is the same for everyone, but the menu only lists what your roles allow.
Welcome
Confirms the organisation and environment you are in (for example a test site or the live site) and lists your roles as chips. Roles control what you can do; the full list is under Users and roles.
If it says “None yet”, you can sign in but cannot see content. Ask your tenant admin to give you a role. Roles that carry platform-wide duties are labelled “(platform)”.
Repository
A quick count of what is held: the published capability model version, how many elements (applications, technology and other ArchiMate things) and how many relationships between them.
- Select the capability model tile to open the Capability model.
- Select the elements tile to open Applications and technology.
“None” means no capability model has been published yet. A new repository starts empty: import the capability model first, then add elements.
Layer coverage
Shows how many elements sit in each architecture layer (for example business, application and technology). Each tile links to the list filtered to that layer.
Use it to spot gaps: a layer marked “(none yet)” has nothing recorded. The line beneath lists the most common element types, each also a link.
This section only appears once the repository holds at least one element.
Needs attention
Data-quality counts that ask for a tidy-up. Each links to the matching list.
- Without an owner: nobody is named as responsible.
- With no relationships: the element is not connected to anything.
- Not reviewed in 12 months: possibly out of date.
- Possible duplicates: similar names that may be the same thing.
- Invalid relationships: links the ArchiMate rules do not allow.
Aim to bring the numbers down over time. More detail is in Data quality.
Build status
A table of the product’s build slices (areas of the product), the release each belongs to and whether it is built or planned. It mostly matters to the people running the product.
A “Planned” chip means that area is not available yet. Anything marked as built is ready to use.
That link is not valid
Sign-in links work once and expire after 15 minutes. You see this page if the link was already used, has expired, or was cut short when copied.
- Choose Go to sign in.
- Ask for a new link with Email me a link.
- Open the newest email only.
Some mail programmes pre-open links to scan them, which can use the link up before you do. If that keeps happening, sign in with a password or passkey instead.
Check your email
You see this after asking for a sign-in link. For privacy the page says the same thing whether or not the address has access, so it never reveals who has an account.
- The link works once and expires after 15 minutes.
- Check your junk folder if nothing arrives.
- Use Back to sign in to try again, with the exact address you were invited on.
If it still does not arrive, ask your tenant admin to send you a link from Users and roles.
The sign-in page offers three ways in. Use whichever suits you; they all end in the same place and the same role checks.
- Sign in with a passkey: one press, then your fingerprint, face or PIN. It only appears if your browser supports passkeys.
- Email and password: the traditional way.
- Email me a link: no password needed.
Repeated wrong attempts are slowed down for safety. If your organisation requires a second step you will be asked for your passkey next.
Email and password
Enter the email address you were invited on and your password, then Sign in. Passwords are never shown to administrators.
If you have no password yet or have forgotten it, use Email me a link below, then set a password from your Account page. If your browser offers to fill in a passkey while you click in the email box, you can choose that instead.
Email me a link
Enter your email address and press Send sign-in link. Lintel emails a link that signs you in once and expires after 15 minutes.
- Enter your address.
- Open the email on the same device if you can.
- Press the link, then Sign in on the page that opens.
Nothing is revealed about whether the address has access. If it has, the email arrives within a minute or two.
Confirm it is you
Your organisation needs a passkey as a second step, so after your password or link you must prove it is you with a passkey.
- Press Use my passkey.
- Approve with your fingerprint, face or PIN.
- If your passkey is on your phone, choose the phone option on the prompt and scan the code.
If your device has no passkey or does not support them, use another device, or ask your tenant admin to reset your passkeys (see Passkeys by person). Start again returns you to the sign-in page.
Add a passkey on this phone
You reach this page by scanning the QR code from your Account page on another device. It adds a passkey for the email address shown, on this phone. It does not sign you in.
- Press Create passkey on this phone.
- Approve with the phone’s fingerprint, face or PIN.
- Go back to your computer and carry on.
The link works once and expires after a few minutes. If it fails, make a new code from your Account page. If you are behind a company gate, the phone may need to pass it first.
Continue to sign in
Sign-in links open this page first, and you press the button to finish. This extra step stops email scanners from using up your one-time link before you do.
Press Sign in and you are taken into Lintel. If the page says the link is not valid, it has been used or has expired; see That link is not valid.
Search
The search box in the top bar finds things across the repository. Type at least two characters and press Enter.
Results are grouped under the headings below, each showing how many matched. Capability results open the capability model with that item selected; application and element results open their records. Search covers what you are allowed to see, and capability matches come from the published model.
Capabilities
Capabilities whose name or description matches your search, shown with their level (L0 to L5) and where they sit in the tree.
Select one to open it in the Capability model with its detail pane showing. If nothing matches the list says so.
Applications
Applications that match, in a table with product owner, TIME disposition, annual cost and contract end date. A “Not in portfolio” chip marks something that is referenced but not yet part of the application portfolio.
Select a name to open its record in Applications and technology.
Governance library
Principles, policies, standards and patterns that match. Each result shows the kind of item. Select one to read it and see what hangs under it.
This heading appears only when something in the governance library matches. See Governance library.
Other elements
Every other repository element that matches, such as technology services, data objects or business processes, with its type and reference.
Select one to open its record. Use the type and reference shown to tell similar names apart.
